DuPont Crop Protection Makes $10,000 Donation to Southeastern Pecan Growers Association

MEMPHIS, Tenn., March 15, 2005 – DuPont Crop Protection demonstrated its commitment to the pecan industry this past weekend during the 99th Annual Southeastern Pecan Growers Association Convention with a $10,000 donation check for the Partners in Production Program. Since the program’s inception in 1995, DuPont has donated more than $216,000 toward pecan research and projects.

“DuPont Crop Protection is committed to supporting the research efforts of pecan growers through 2005,” said Don Guy, DuPont product manager. “This donation will further the advancements made by pecan production researchers over the past few years.”

The Partners in Production Program provides pecan research for chemical mowing, disease and insect control, irrigation, tree nutrition, weather-based advisory control for pecan scab, and much more.

“DuPont hopes that by funding pecan research we can aid in improving the competitiveness of pecan operations,” said Guy. “By doing this, we can do our part to ensure that pecan growers enhance their production and crop value, enabling them to flourish in this aggressive agricultural environment.”

Past projects have included: Weather based Advisory Control of Pecan Scab; Insecticide Resistance Development in Pecan Insects and Mites; Investigating the Role of Boron in Enhancing Flower Fertilization; Reducing Fruit Abortion and Enhancing Resistance to Pecan Scab; The Southeastern Pecan Growers Survey 1997-98; An Integrated Approach to Stink Bug Control in Pecans: Emphasis on Trap Cropping; Determination of Optimal Trap Type for Monitoring Pecan Nut Casebearer; Location, Propagation & Evaluation of Scab Resistant Natives and Seedling from Louisiana, Georgia and Alabama; Influence of Source of Inoculum and Pecan Cultivar on Infection by Cladosporium Caryigenum; Improving Stink Bug and Plant Bug Control in Pecans; Abbreviated Pecan Disease Control Spray Schedule; Improving Orchard Yield via Pollen Management; Bionomics and Control of Black Pecan Aphids; Effect of Chemical Mowing on Horticulture and Economic Factors of Pecan Production; Persistence and Curative Properties of Pecan Fungicides and Stink Bugs and Stink Bug Trapping: Where we are.
