DES MOINES, Iowa, Aug. 10, 2005 – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has granted Federal registration for the use of DuPont™ Canopy® EX , a new fall-applied soybean product offering designed for control of many winter annuals and certain perennials plus residual control that results in cleaner fields at planting. According to Jeff Carpenter, DuPont soybean product manager, Canopy® EX is an ideal set-up for spring planting in no-till soybean acres. “Growers can apply DuPont™ Canopy® EX herbicide earlier in the fall than other herbicides for over-winter control of some of their toughest weeds,” said Carpenter. “They can start off their new crop with a cleaner, warmer, drier field in the spring.” A fall application, immediately after harvest until ground freeze-up, of DuPont™ Canopy® EX herbicide provides reliable burndown and residual control through planting of weeds like lambsquarters, common chickweed and giant ragweed. Allow 45 days before planting soybeans. “I’ve been extremely pleased with the performance of Canopy® EX on winter annual weeds – chickweed, henbit, marestail, dandelion and others,” said Bill Johnson, Associate Professor of Weed Science, Purdue. “Combined with 2,4-D, Canopy® EX is the standard that we compare other qualified programs to for soybeans. Used in the fall, it gives growers residual activity in the spring. And we like that it’s well-suited for some of our worst winter weeds. Applying a fall herbicide can also help to conserve no-till acres.” For optimal results when applying a fall application of DuPont™ Canopy® EX spray before winter annual weeds exceed 1-3 inches in diameter or height. Control depends on the rate used, weed spectrum and size, growing conditions at and following treatment, soil moisture, precipitation and spray adjuvants used. Higher rates of Canopy® EX are recommended for improved residual control where rate is not restricted by soil pH. DuPont is a science company.
