Boost binder performance in four key areas:

Rutting
Fatigue
Cold cracking
Stripping

Build safer, longer-lasting pavements
that fight extreme temperatures and traffic loads

10 yr old OGFC in Oregon
The earliest road made with Elvaloy® RET is a 1991 open grade friction course (OGFC) still in service in Oregon. As detailed in a recent Road Report, it continues to survive traffic and temperature extremes that caused adjacent pavements to fail.

What is DuPont™ Elvaloy® RET?

Added in small quantities to asphalt, Elvaloy® terpolymer creates a permanently modified binder with improved elastomeric properties. Unlike most other plastomers and elastomers that are simply mixed into asphalt, Elvaloy® has an active ingredient that chemically reacts with asphalt. The result is not a mixture of asphalt and modifier, but rather a stable, elastically improved, more resilient binder that can be stored and shipped to hot mix plants to help meet SHRP and other higher-performance specifications.

Hot mix asphalts made with Elvaloy® are easy to spread and compact, and provide outstanding resistant to rutting, cold cracking and fatigue. Roads made with Elvaloy® have been in service since 1991, and are showing excellent long-term durability.

Contact DuPont to locate an asphalt producer in your area offering advanced binders made with reactive terpolymer.

Testing at NCAT

During the summer of 1999, the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) used a loaded rolling wheel tester to compare SHRP Superpave mixes made with unmodified and polymer-modified asphalts (PMAs). Data on rutting resistance shows that the top-performing mixes are those made with Elvaloy® and SBS, as shown below:

(Note: The above data has been averaged from initial NCAT test reports.

Case histories and road reports

DuPont reactive terpolymer has been used to modify asphalt since 1991. PMAs made with the new DuPont modifier now have been used in more than 26 states in the U.S., and in several other countries. Examples of publicized highway projects include the following:
