New Zytel® Offering for Automotive Fluid Management Tubes
Chemical modified long-chain polyamide (LCPA) materials provide attractive alternatives to PA12
Geneva, 15 October, 2018 – DuPont Transportation & Advanced Polymers, a newly formed business segment within DowDuPont’s Specialty Products Division, is broadening the range of its DuPont™ Zytel® LCPA portfolio based on chemical modified (PA610 & PA612) technology. Excellent physical properties make these materials ideal for diesel and gasoline fuel lines, SCR AdBlue® lines plus filler neck pipes, air brake tubes and coolant pipes for both gas combustion and electric/hybrid vehicles. In addition, some of these new grades are compliant with the latest demanding OEM specifications for fuel lines & SCR Adblue® lines with regard to low extractables.
“As one of the key global suppliers of long chain polyamide (LCPA) to the automotive industry, DuPont strives to continuously improve materials used in demanding applications,” said Patrick Cazuc, marketing manager, DuPont Transportation & Advanced Polymers. “In harsh powertrain environments, the ability to retain flexibility in pipes and tubing is essential while delivering on heat, chemical and stress-cracking resistance. The low extractables level achieved with these products in fuel environments or their suitability for mono- or multi-layer construction in coolant tubes make them an attractive alternative to PA12 in several fluid management tubing applications.”
DuPont chemical-modified Zytel® LCPA products portfolio (PA612 & PA610) include new grades Zytel® LC7603 and Zytel® LC7201 providing multiple benefits that include:
· Impact toughness and tensile strength retention during heat aging
· Enhanced high-temperature and burst-pressure resistance after long term aging
· Chemical, fuel and hydrolysis resistance
· Better permeation resistance to polar fluids
· Salt stress-cracking resistance
· Cold impact toughness and flexibility
· Suitable for mono- and multi-layer tube constructions
· Ease of processing in extrusion and blow molding
· Some formulations with bio-based-based content (=PA610)
· Sustainability of supply
