DuPont at The Battery Show: Science is Critical to Exacting Performance
WILMINGTON, Del., Sept. 15, 2015 – DuPont will share scientific approaches that have identified opportunities to improve the energy density and performance of Li-ion batteries at the Battery Show & Conference, Sept. 15-17, Novi, Mich.
George Kodokian, technology director, DuPont Energy Storage, will deliver a presentation at a panel session entitled “Scalable Next-Gen Materials for Improved Performance and Lower Cost” on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
DuPont’s efforts to improve Li-ion battery materials are primarily focused on electrolytes and new solvents and additives used to generate higher voltages in nickel-rich cathodes. Insights on market and technology approaches will be shared.
Electrolytes are a critical battery component that shuttle lithium ions between the positive and negative electrodes. “Understanding the fundamentals of advanced materials and how they interact in the cell will improve energy density and performance and reduce system cost,” said Kodokian. “Increasing energy density and extending battery life-time reduce the cost per unit of energy ($/kWh).”
DuPont end-to-end science-based capabilities in battery chemistries include modeling, solvent and additive synthesis, formulation, cell testing and analysis and process innovation.
