What causes cloudy water?
A number of factors can affect water clarity, including factors
you may want to discuss with a pool service professional:
- Are your filters and pumps the right size for your pool?
Make sure they provide maximum filtration and acceptable turnover
times.
- Are your filter elements and filter media in good condition?
For DE (diatomaceous earth) filters, elements that are cracked,
broken or torn should be replaced. For sand and DE filters, if
the filter media is blocked and backwashing does not improve the
filtering process, special attention may be needed.
- Is the water circulating properly? Make sure suction
and return pressures are adjusted to maximize circulation.
- Are you vacuuming regularly? Particulates can settle
to the bottom of the pool overnight and should be removed before
swimming.
- Is the water in balance? Use a reliable chemical
test kit to ensure the proper levels of pH, total alkalinity
and calcium hardness.
- Are you oxidizing? Regular, preventive oxidizing with
DuPont™ Oxone® eliminates nonmicrobial contaminants, maximizes
sanitizer efficiency and makes it easy to keep your pool or spa
water clear, sparkling and inviting!
