As a Nylon Toughener, Surlyn® ionomer Helps Tailor Performance: General-Purpose, Intermediate, or Supertough
DuPont™ Surlyn® ionomer resins become finely dispersed (<0.3µm particle size) in nylon, enabling use of single screw extruders to make toughened alloys. Higher modifier loadings increase toughness, while improving gloss in molded parts such as motorcycle body trim.
Grades of Surlyn® nylon toughener include many with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) food contact compliance as well as food approvals in Europe. Surlyn® grade selection and loading levels allow for general-purpose, intermediate and advanced nylon toughening.
Using Surlyn® ionomer resins is one of several ways to toughen nylon or polyamide (PA) resins. The use of this and other nylon toughener resins from DuPont is described more fully on the nylon impact modification page of this site.
