Resurfaced Croatian Bridge Pavement Resists Rutting from Heavy Trucks

A 4-lane bridge over the Kupa River in Sisak, Croatia, includes freight traffic from the oil refinery and the ironworks in Sisak to the western and eastern regions of the Croatia. Deep rutting had occurred due to slow, heavy traffic, so the asphalt road surface was reconstructed in 1999. The Katran d.d. industrial plant from Zagreb produced asphalt mixtures for a protective layer (AB8) and wear layer (SMA 11). A modified binder PMB 45 was made by adding DuPont™ Elvaloy® RET to local bitumen BIT 60.
