Air Leakage Testing | DuPont™ Tyvek®

Tyvek® exceeds requirements in air leakage testing

In air leakage testing, DuPont™ Tyvek® commercial air barrier assemblies exceed Air Barrier Association of America ASHRAE 90.1 and IECC air leakage requirements, when tested in accordance with ASTM E2357.

Assembly tested

Experts agree that the overall performance of an air barrier assembly is of far greater importance than the air permeance of any single component. An air barrier assembly includes not just the main air barrier membrane (such as Tyvek® CommercialWrap®), but also other materials, such as flashing, tapes, fasteners, primers, and sealants.

Rigorous standards

DuPont performs air leakage testing on all of its air barrier systems in accordance with ASTM E2357, “Standard Test Method for Determining Air Leakage of Air Barriers.”

DuPont believes temperature fluctuation, and the expansion and contraction that accompany it, can also play a role in the performance of air barrier assemblies. To address this, DuPont test protocol for commercial air barrier systems goes well beyond the ASTM E2357 test methodology.

Additionally, DuPont also subjects Tyvek® air barrier assemblies to rigorous thermal cycling and high-pressure testing. This helps to further ensure a truly high-performance air barrier system, one that can positively impact a building’s durability, comfort and energy efficiency over time.
