Building Science Experts Are Part of Every Product

Behind every DuPont innovation is forward thinking, deep insight —and a team of dedicated DuPont building science experts. 

Since inventing the building wrap category more than 30 years ago, DuPont has been a leader in developing innovative offerings, including extendable flashing, enhanced drainage building wraps, and fluid applied weather barriers and flashing products.

Here are some of the building science experts whose work is helping to advance weatherization technologies to meet the need for ever more energy efficient and durable structures.

Laura Dwyer, Expert/Speaker

Dedicated to harnessing the knowledge of DuPont™ Building Innovations professionals, Laura focuses on delivering enhanced value to customers and sharing best practices in building science. 

She is the manager of the DuPont™ Building Knowledge Center, a national network of experts who shape insights, tools, and resources to help members of the building industry.

Laura earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University and an M.B.A. from the University of Delaware.

Ben Meyer, RA, LEED, AP®

As a member of the DuPont team of building scientists, Ben interacts with both customers and industry associations, to provide education about building envelope design. He also advocates the importance of proper product selection and installation in establishing building envelope systems for buildings.

He is a Building Science Architect with the DuPont™ Building Knowledge Center.  He earned his B.S. and Master’s degrees at the University of Cincinnati.

Andrew Miles, Forensics Engineer

Providing technical support to the DuPont™ Tyvek® Specialist network, Andrew works with DuPont Sales and Marketing, architects, contractors, and consultants, to help them understand how to get the best results with DuPont™ Tyvek® commercial building wraps, DuPont™ Tyvek® Fluid Applied Systems, and DuPont™ Flashing Systems products. 

His responsibilities include mock wall testing and field investigations related to use, performance, and customer concerns.  He also works with the DuPont™ Tyvek® Specialist Network and DuPont™ Tyvek® Certified Installers, to consult and educate on product installation and performance attributes.

Andrew has a Mechanical Engineering Technology degree from Virginia State University and an Engineer-in-Training Certification (EIT).

Dana Perry, Research Investigator

Working in DuPont Building Innovations, Dana focuses on DuPont™ Tyvek® residential products and product development.  He is involved in design, project management, testing, product approval code approvals, and architectural integration and installation.

Dana joined DuPont in 1977 as a Mechanical Designer with DuPont Engineering.

Maria Spinu, Ph.D., LEED AP®

A member of the DuPont™ Building Knowledge Center, Dr. Spinu works to educate industry specialists and commercial building professionals on a range of topics, including building physics, energy efficiency, and sustainability.

Dr. Spinu’s work includes developing learning initiatives for Tyvek® Specialists, and helping the scientists who develop DuPont™ Building Envelope Systems to understand the needs and issues faced by the building professionals who specify and install DuPont products.

Dr. Spinu earned a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering from Virginia Tech. She speaks frequently at industry conferences, and is the author of 16 patents.

Theresa Weston, Ph.D.

A member of the DuPont™ Building Knowledge Center, Dr. Weston works to develop building envelope systems and construction methods for producing durable, energy-efficient buildings. She also works on behalf of DuPont Building Innovations on issues related to building codes, energy codes, and standards.

Dr. Weston’s research focuses on building envelope performance and applications of water and air barriers, flashing products and insulation. 

The holder of four U.S. patents, Dr. Weston earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the California Institute of Technology.
