This seminar will outline recent changes in building energy codes and how these changes could impact the long range durability of the building enclosure. The seminar is divided into 3 sections:
- The first section is a brief summary of recent changes in North America energy codes. The discussion is focused on the opaque building envelope criteria and the changes in wall assembly design as a result of energy code requirements.
- The second section is a review of moisture sources and moisture management strategies for the building enclosure.
- The final section will provide examples of moisture analysis for typical framed walls to illustrate potential impact of new energy code requirements on moisture management and long term durability risks. The durability assessment examples will include wintertime and summertime condensation potential and drying rates for different design options using simulated drying following a wetting event.
