Designing a Bathroom for your Home with Corian® and Zodiaq®
Following a few simple best-planning practices can help you get beautiful results when designing a bathroom with DuPont™ Corian® solid surface and DuPont™ Zodiaq® quartz surface.
Step Back and Take Stock
The first thing you need to understand about designing a bathroom is The Why, as in, “why exactly are you doing it?” Assess precisely what’s working and what’s failing in your current bathroom. Is the look dated? Are the fixtures nearing the end of the road? Is the goal to increase the value of your home, or are you in your space for the long term and purely interested in satisfying your own aesthetic aspirations and practical needs? Clearly understanding your own motivations and aspirations is critically important when designing a bathroom.
Scope the Job
Is this a facelift or a gut renovation, where you demo down to the lath? Do you want a larger bathroom? Have the kids left the nest? One of their old bedrooms could make for a splendid bathroom. Does your bathroom need a facelift, or a gut renovation? If your bathroom is spacious, would the addition of a new fixture make all the difference? A standalone shower in addition to the full bath?
Break Out the Tape Measure
Understanding what can be achieved within the limits of your space is essential when designing a bathroom. You need to measure out how far out each item protrudes, and be certain doors and cabinet drawers can open freely.
Measure and be sure there is space for everything that the bathroom will be used for, including sink, tub, shower and vanity. Based on these dimensions, and your sketch, you’ll arrive at a rough estimate of surface area of countertops.

No matter whether it’s a simple cosmetic remodeling project or a gut renovation, DuPont™ Corian® solid surface and DuPont™ Zodiaq® quartz surface are your best friends when you’re designing a bathroom for your home. Stunningly beautiful and possessed of performance characteristics that make them a perfect fit for residential baths, these surfaces can make planning your bath project a positive pleasure. To make matters even simpler, you can choose from a wide range of DuPont™ Corian® and DuPont™ Zodiaq® vanity countertops, and edges and inlays, as well as Corian® bathroom sinks, and ready-to-install tub and shower surrounds.
Vanity tops and bathroom sinks made with DuPont™ Corian® solid surfaces and Zodiaq® quartz surfaces give your home bath a premium high-end look that is both warm and inviting. But these exquisite-looking surfaces are also non-porous, easy to clean, require no sealants, and, with proper cleaning, do not support the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew.
Performance Advantages over Marble and Tile
Durability and maintenance are key concerns when designing a bathroom. Unlike cultured marble, sinks and tub and shower surrounds won’t chip or crack. Unlike tile, these surfaces have few seams and require less grout. Fewer seams mean that there are fewer places for dirt and grunge to collect. DuPont Surfaces also wipe clean, saving you from endless scrubbing. For more information, see How to Care for Corian® or How to Care for Zodiaq®
