A new sponsorship will help position next generation to guide specialty crops industry for continued growth and success.
WILMINGTON, Del., September 18, 2012 – DuPont Crop Protection has partnered with the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association (FFVA) to become the first Sustaining Sponsor for the FFVA Emerging Leader Development Program, a leadership program designed to equip up-and-coming leaders with the depth of knowledge necessary to help address opportunities and issues facing the specialty crop industry in Florida.
The collaborative effort between FFVA and DuPont Crop Protection highlights the organizations’ shared commitment to developing young leaders in Florida’s vital specialty crop industry.
“At DuPont, we are committed to finding new, innovative ways to feed the world’s growing population. Florida’s fruit and vegetable growers are key to achieving that goal,” said John Chrosniak, regional business director, North America, DuPont Crop Protection. “We are proud to partner with FFVA whose members believe, as we do, that emerging talent will help the Florida industry continue its remarkable growth and fulfill its strong potential for agricultural expansion.”
The FFVA Emerging Leader Development Program will recognize 11 individuals in its second class. “We are very pleased to receive the Sustaining Sponsorship from DuPont to support our Emerging Leader Development Program for Class 2,” said Sonia Tighe, executive director of the Florida Specialty Crop Foundation and director of the program. FFVA administers the leadership program through its foundation. “This program engages our younger members and gives them in-depth knowledge on industry issues. DuPont has a long history of supporting leadership programs in the specialty crop industry, so this is a natural fit. We look forward to their participation.”
“The program is becoming one of the best things we’ve ever done in terms of getting early- and mid-career members of our industry actively engaged in the association. Their involvement is surpassing and exceeding all of our expectations,” said FFVA President Mike Stuart.
The 2012-2013 Emerging Leaders will be introduced at the 69th Annual FFVA Convention to be held in Naples, Fla., from Wednesday, Sept. 19, to Friday, Sept. 21. Participants are chosen from FFVA members’ organizations and families and must be between 25 and 40 years of age. They must also be pursuing a career in Florida’s specialty crop industry.
The program’s objectives include developing leaders with a depth of knowledge of the many issues facing agriculture; providing emerging leaders with the education and tools to understand those issues; preparing younger leaders to improve the sustainability and economic viability of specialty crop agriculture; and improving the grassroots engagement and involvement in the FFVA and other industry organizations.
