DuPont EIS Supports Electrical Product Certification
Why Do I Need EIS?
DuPont provides assistance to component manufacturers for electrical product certifications that meet regulations and market requirements to develop more reliable products.
Until recently, Electrical Insulation Systems (EIS) recognition for electrical products was required only in the United States by manufacturers seeking recognition under UL 1446. However, with the adoption of IEC 61857 and IEC 61858 by IEC member nations, the concept of using EIS is now a global reality. For those nations automatically adopting IEC standards as national standards, EIS are here today for domestic products as well as exports.
Ultimately, it is the level of product reliability a company wants to achieve that matters. To meet the new global standard, manufacturers must have a set of Electrical Insulation Materials (EIMs) that are pre-tested and obtain system recognition before proceeding to end-product testing and certification. Companies can also use an EIS databank as a reference to develop more reliable electrical winding for other non-regulated applications.
How Does DuPont Help? Free Authorization to Use EIS
DuPont provides you with free authorization to use a series of EIS which are compliant with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC) standards. Our electrical materials have been developed for manufacturers of transformers, motors, relays, solenoids and other electrical applications.
These pre-approved systems can save your company significant time and money by offering solutions that have recognition from UL and are ready to be used for your end-product registration testing.
DuPont has a long history of excellence and innovation as a supplier of electrical insulation materials. Since inventing nylon 66 (polyamide 66) and DuPont™ Teflon® (polytetrafluoroethylene) more than 60 years ago, DuPont has become one of the world's leading suppliers of electrical insulation materials and the global leader in UL-recognized EIS.
Offering a wide range of films, high-performance thermoplastic resins, fibers, Nomex(r) aramid papers and pressboard products, we are able to meet virtually all the electrical insulation requirements of today's transformers, motors, relays, switches, sensors and encapsulated coils and components. We continue to innovate by tailoring and improving material performance to meet emerging application requirements.
Together with our distributors, converters and molders, DuPont has established a network capable of supplying world-class quality products and services virtually anywhere on the globe. Our production plants are located in all regions of the world and are either certified or are in the process of being certified to comply with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
