Expanded Carpet Value Chain Highlights Increased Awareness and Demand for Bio-Based Products in Asia Pacific

SHANGHAI, March 27, 2013 – DuPont Industrial Biosciences today announced at Domotex Asia/ChinaFloor the addition of two new carpet manufacturers to its growing Sorona® fiber value chain, expanding its presence in the Asia Pacific market.  Jiangxi Huateng Carpet Industrial Park Co., Ltd. (CTTCC), and Weihai Shanhua Carpet Group Co., Ltd., both leaders in commercial carpet design and manufacturing, have integrated DuPont™ Sorona® renewably sourced polymer, a patented DuPont fiber technology, into their carpet offerings.  New broadloom and modular carpet styles will be on display at Domotex Asia/ChinaFloor, March 26-28, 2013, Booth #W1J10.

“Our goal is to bring innovative products to the market, and this takes collaboration,” said John Lyons, global business development manager for DuPont™ Sorona®.  “It means collaborating with companies such as CTTCC and Shanhua and leveraging our science throughout the value chain to give the customer what they need, a more renewable flooring option that reduces our dependence on fossil fuels without compromising performance or aesthetics.”

CTTCC is adding four new styles to its GreenPad® brand of modular carpet tiles made with DuPont™ Sorona® fiber: Saipan Island, Bali, Vitoria and Loire. Available in 12 colors each, these new styles offer CTTCC customers even more choices when selecting carpet tiles for their modern building designs.  GreenPad® carpet made with DuPont™ Sorona® fiber is intended for high traffic areas including corporate office spaces, government and healthcare facilities.

Shanhua is launching XINMEI carpet made with DuPont™ Sorona® fiber adding an additional 32 broadloom colors to their offering.  The rich color and classic design of the XINMEI styles offers a variety of color and design options which are ideal for the hospitality segment.

The carpet introductions above expand the offerings in Asia Pacific beyond those already available from Godfrey Hirst, Homedec and Hongchia.

“The use of bio-based products such as DuPont™ Sorona® fiber will continue to grow as more companies recognize the importance of diversifying their feed stocks beyond those derived from fossil fuels,” said Lyons. “DuPont is uniquely positioned to help these companies achieve their sustainability goals.”

Sorona® polymer is made in part from annually renewable plant-based ingredients and used primarily in fiber applications, including fiber for textiles used in apparel and home, office and automotive interiors, and fiber for carpet including residential, commercial and automotive carpets and mats. In addition to replacing some petrochemical based ingredients with those made with renewable resources, Sorona® polymer also provides a 30 percent reduction in energy use and 63 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared to incumbent materials such as nylon 6, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels – a finite resource. To learn more about the development of renewable fibers, DuPont™ Sorona® team members will be participants in the Carpet Technology Forum at Domotex on March 27 from 10:45 am -11:15 am, SNIEC/ W3M10 Conference Room.  For more information on the performance and environmental benefits of DuPont™ Sorona® fiber, please visit sorona.dupont.com.
