The largest and leading Chinese automotive rubber hose manufacturer is known for its progressiveness in integrating scientific research, development, production and sales. When the company needed to improve the appearance of its automotive hoses, DuPont™ Kevlar® AP (Advanced Performance) yarn offered a solution that was superior to a competitive product it had been using.
The Challenge
The company had been using a heavy 2520 dtex aramid yarn to make automotive power steering hoses but was concerned about the poor appearance of this product. It wanted to find a lighter denier yarn that would offer similar performance and a better appearance.
The Solution
DuPont™ Kevlar® AP 1100 dtex yarn offered an ideal solution. With its increased tenacity over the competitive product, DuPont™ Kevlar® AP enabled the company to use less material while maintaining the performance levels it had been achieving using the competitive product. Specifically, the reduced yarn consumption using DuPont™ Kevlar® AP allowed the company to achieve a weight reduction of 13% in its hoses while maintaining an equal burst pressure.
Trimming down the thickness of the rubber cover layer yielded an improved hose appearance.
