5 Step Izon® Process
From design conceptualization through final production, each step of the DuPont™ Izon® manufacturing process is tightly controlled and designed for maximum authentication strength in the marketplace.
Step 1: Design Study
The first step in creating a secure and compelling 3D DuPont™ Izon® image is the "Design Study," developed with security as the foremost priority, but also taking into account aesthetic or branding needs the client might have.
An image model is constructed using elements that may include:
- A 3D model, precision sculpted or laser cut
- Foreground graphics, often using transparency effects
- Background graphics, often backlit for light variation effects
The overall effect as a viewer tips the image, is a deep, 3D object floating in space with variable appearance effects in the occupied space
Step 2: Model Making
After Design Study approval, a finished 3D model is made, along with any other graphic elements used to compose the image master. The phsyical model and artwork are produced at a one-to-one ratio for integrated image mastering. When the model and art composition are complete, a digital photo is sent to client for approval.
Step 3: The Image Master
The laser-based image mastering process involves a reference beam and tuned mirrors and lenses that create an interference pattern as the light reflects back from the model onto a light-sensitive master plate.
Step 4: Reflection Master
The Image Master is then used to create a set of Reflection Masters. One by one, multiple reflection masters are produced and meticulously assembled into a master production plate, enabling the replicated DuPont™ Izon® images.
Step 5: Replication
The master production plate is positioned on the image replicator and copies of the image are embedded into polymer based films. The deep, 3D DuPont™ Izon® image becomes visible when light waves strike the embedded image at the same angle as the laser beam used in making the master plate.
