New Kerasilk Hair Care Product Range Features Innovative Airless System Made with DuPont™ Surlyn®
Kerasilk hair care lotion is protected by the innovation of the airless Gaplast bottle. This patented system combines an airless pump with a co-extruded bottle where the inner layer is composed of DuPont™ Surlyn®. This layer benefits from unique chemical and physical properties allowing it to detach smoothly from the surface thus creating an inner bag which protects the formulation from infiltration by external contaminants from the first use and also ensures the bag can be almost completely emptied.

GENEVA, Sept. 26, 2016 – The Kerasilk product line designed for hair care professionals is the result of advanced research by the Goldwell Kao brand. The packaging of the different products in the line - (Kerasilk Control, Kerasilk Rebuild, Kerasilk Colour, Kerasilk Repower) benefits from highly efficient airless technology. This innovative bottle developed by Gaplast, who has successfully specialized in plastics packaging for pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products for over 40 years, is designed to answer Goldwell Kao’s needs and strict guidelines for the conservation of products after opening. The new airless method optimizes product emptying and protects the contents from oxidation and the penetration of possible contaminants. At the same time, the use of preservatives in the formulation is reduced, which makes it more suitable for skin contact. This represents a substantial technical achievement.

Gaplast's special patented system pushes the boundaries of airless technology by integrating a layer of DuPont™ Surlyn® in the coextruded bottle. The unique properties of Surlyn® resin allow this layer to retract and create a flexible and protective inner bag inside the bottle. In addition to protecting formulations from germs and other external contaminants from the very first use, this bag retracts to ensure better delivery of the product even if it is very viscous, up to complete emptying when folded flat. These characteristics are lauded by Stephan Kneer, CTO of Gaplast: “Only DuPont™ Surlyn® resin could meet the stringent technical and functional manufacturing requirements of this process (chemical resistance, hot tacking). The polarity of Surlyn® ensures minimal adhesion for better separation of the bottle’s internal and external layers. Its excellent elasticity prevents deformation, folds or cracks appearing on the inner bag even when working with complex designs and extremely thin walls.”
