Case Ready Meat Packaging – the New Norm
There’s no question that case-ready packaging for meat and seafood is becoming the standard among retailers and consumers alike. With, better shelf appeal, safer, longer-selling windows for retailers and reduced packaging and distribution costs, the demand for case-ready formats continues to rise.
Growing Demand for Case-Ready Packaging
Case ready packaging has experienced double-digit growth in the past 5 years. And, what’s in the meat case is in step with what consumers are demanding. In the 2014 Power of Meat Report from the Food Marketing Institute, 78% of shoppers consider the quality of case-ready meat and poultry to meet or exceed that of products processed in the store. That’s up 16% from 2008. Specifically, the benefits of vacuum skin packaging are in great demand with consumers.
How DuPont Packaging Materials Add Value
DuPont works with leading meat, poultry and seafood manufacturers, like you, to develop packaging materials and sealing technologies that can seal at broader temperature ranges with better seal-through of contamination areas, help ensure stronger, more consistent seal integrity on all sides of the package and avoid the weak seal spots that cause leaks. DuPont packaging materials preserve freshness and enhance appearance like few can in across multiple case-ready packaging formats.
DuPont resins – DuPont™ Surlyn®, DuPont™ Appeel®, DuPont™ Bynel®, DuPont™ Selar PA®, DuPont™ Elvax® and DuPont™ Nucrel® – are often found in multilayer coextruded barrier films and sheets and can be used in tie layers, bulking layers, sealants and other means for a variety of packages:
