Viton® For Maximum Fuel Resistance

Viton® fluoroelastomerscan provide resistance for all types of automotive fuels and fuel blends, whether gasoline, ethanol, diesel or biodiesel.  And hydrocarbon permeation resistance of Viton® can help OEMs meet the everincreasing regulatory requirements such as CARB’s LEV III and Euro 5 .  

By proper selection of the Viton® grade and compound formulation, fuel permeations andaging resistance can be maximized for the application and fuel type to meet today’s automotive requirements.

Viton® extrusion types such as VTR-9209 have been optimized for fuel hose applications with improved extrusion processing, excellent adhesion, and low permeation in fuels and biofuel blends.

Viton® APA grades, such as  GBL-S provide  resistance  to degraded and aggressive biodiesel fuel in hightemperature applications, combined with superior extrudability.

Vamac® Outperforms in Aging Tests

Automotive fuel hoses typically have a premium inner layer like Viton® to provide permeation resistance, and a thicker cover layer to providea cost-effective hose that can meet high temperature requirements.  Some fuel hoses have to withstand relatively high temperatures because they route through the engine compartments.  A fuel hose made of a Viton® inner layer and a Vamac® cover can combine good fuel resistance and high temperature properties. The initial adhesion between the two layers is very good, and the adhesion is still very good after heat aging, providing overall durability.

Vamac®G, GXF or Ultra HT polymers have been used in the hose cover compounds. The optimum grade depends on the end-use requirements. The Vamac® Ultra HT compounds will have the best dynamic properties  and the best heat aging, while the Vamac® G will provide the most cost effective compound.
