Vespel® Custom Plastic Parts

DuPont works closely with part designers to customize design, material and production method for the desired end-use results.

Vespel® custom plastic parts are specified where the material and design are key for success in the application. The manufacturing method chosen is based on a number of considerations including part geometry and economics. Vespel® parts and shapes are ISO-9001 and ISO-14001 certified.

Types of Manufacturing Methods

Molded Finished Parts

Large quantities of custom plastic parts, geometry permitting, can be molded with little/no to little or no machining.  This is the most economical method for production of large quantities with wider tolerances.

Molded and Machined Finished Parts

When tight tolerances or complex geometries is required, machining to achieve final part dimensions is applied after molding. Vespel® parts, unlike other polymers, can be easily machined with the usual machine tools and will yield very smooth surfaces.

Assemblies

When metal or ceramic mating components are required, insert-molding, mechanical attachment, and/or bonding is always an option to provide more design flexibility and overall part functionality.  DuPont engineers can help evaluate various assembly techniques to meet performance and cost requirements.

Injection molded parts

In high volume applications where thermoplastic resins can be used, injection-molded parts allow design engineers increased geometric options without the added cost of secondary machining. Multiple components may be incorporated into a single part, reducing tooling, inventory and part handling costs. Injection-molding manufacturing is frequently used for automotive or aerospace parts.

Vespel® products are made from a variety of materials (polyimides, thermoplastics, composites and chemically-resistant polymers). These products offer a unique combination of physical properties and design flexibility. Parts are available as custom parts, stock shapes, components or assembles.
