A Poly Trimethylene Terephthalate With a Smaller Carbon Footprint
Sorona® EP contains 20% to 37% renewable material from non-food biomass, and has performance similar to conventional PBT plastics.
DuPont™ Sorona® EP poly trimethylene terephthalate, a thermoplastic polymer, delivers molding characteristics comparable to high-performance PBT (polybutylene terephthalate), including good strength and stiffness.
In addition, Sorona® EP delivers good dimensional stability and finishing qualities, making it an excellent choice for uses from automotive parts to furniture and mobile phone housings, and both industrial and consumer products.

How Sorona® EP is Made
Sorona® EP thermoplastic polymer grades are made with a key intermediate called Susterra™ renewably sourced propanediol made from corn sugar, using proprietary fermentation and chemical processes. Sorona® EP starts out with the same polymer chemistry as the Sorona® used for fibers. Using custom formulation technology and additional enhancements results in high-performance resins suitable for engineering applications.
