Global Commercial Leader, DuPont Photovoltaic and Advanced Materials

Dr. Chuck Xu was appointed Global Commercial Leader in January 2016 leading the newly integrated DuPont Photovoltaic and Advanced Materials business unit, a global leader providing advanced materials for the solar energy, aircraft, automotive, telecom, and consumer electronics industries. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Xu was Global Business Director, DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions business unit, the world’s largest non-silicon photovoltaic (PV) materials provider enabling exponential growth of the $100B solar PV energy industry over the last decade.

Dr. Xu has held a variety of global leadership positions since he joined DuPont in July 2002 as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development of DuPont Photonics Technologies, providing integrated optical components for telecom networks.  Dr. Xu then served as Business Development Director for the DuPont Displays SBU from 2005 to 2007 and General Manager for the DuPont LCD Solutions business from 2007 to 2008.  In late 2008, he became President of DuPont Authentication Inc., a global leader providing total anti-counterfeit solutions to brand owners and government agencies. He expatriated to Hong Kong from August 2010 to November 2013 as Managing Director and CEO of DuPont Apollo Ltd. developing and offering silicon thin film solar PV modules and system solutions.

Before joining DuPont, Dr. Xu was Executive Director of Telephotonics, Inc., a U.S. based venture capital funded telecom startup specializing in integrated optics for optical networks. Dr. Xu was a key leader starting up the company, transforming it from an R&D organization to a commercial business and leading its acquisition by DuPont in July 2002. Prior to joining Telephotonics, Dr. Xu spent 6 years at Honeywell (formerly AlliedSignal) assuming a variety of technology and management roles in its electronic materials division.

Born in China, Dr. Xu received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Peking University, a Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Southern California and an MBA from Columbia University.
