Burglaries in England and Wales: Would Laminated Glass Have Helped?

The number of burglaries in England and Wales (offices and dwellings) virtually doubled in ten years from 718,400 in 1981 to 1,355,300 in 1992, according to Social Trends a crime and justice publication by the UK Government's Statistical Service. A British Crime Survey, also from 1992, revealed that the mode of entry in 25% of the reported cases was from broken glass in doors or windows and 46% was via a forced lock. In the rest, the door was either unlocked or the offender had a key.
