Perfect optical clarity via the laminated glass windows of the Redskins luxury boxes
Part of a Laminated Glass News series on Sports and Leisure facilities
 | Clear views for Redskins fans |
A new, $250 million, 70,000-seat stadium for the Washington Redskins football team, completed in 1998, contains 200 'luxury boxes' or suites with large (7 m wide x 3 m tall), floor-to-ceiling windows of laminated glass.
Architects HOK Sports worked with glazing contractor TSI of Landover, Maryland and Telford, Pennsylvania-based laminator, Laminated Glass Corp. to select laminated glass for maximum safety, security and viewing clarity. President of Laminated Glass Corp., Michael Lerner told LGN: "Laminated glass is the safest choice for glazing at the height of the corporate boxes (10 m above ground level) since it will not fall out of the frame upon impact."
"The other major consideration in the selection of laminated glass by the architects was optical clarity; tempered glass in the large-size panels used (1.3 m x 2.6) would have given distorted views by comparison. When you're following a game, you don't want to see a wavy football flying through the air!"
