Laminated glass in new Seattle library design lets in the maximum light without heat buildup

New Seattle library (model)

Laminated glass will be used to dramatic effect in a new library in Seattle. Reminiscent of Pei's Louvre Pyramid, the library will consist of glass pyramids with three glass platforms that continue inside and outside of the building. As well as being selected for safety and structural reasons, laminated glass was also chosen for its seismic properties since Seattle is classed as an earthquake area. Student architect with OMA, Ann Little commented: "The use of so much laminated glass is designed to let in the maximum light with the absence of heat build-up and give unobstructed views."
