Bringing all the advantages back home

Home on intra-coastal waterway in Florida gets 'views, views, views' ... plus hurricane protection and sound insulation

The Tanaglia residence designed by architect Robert Tuthill (completion June 2000) is situated on the intra-coastal waterway in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Tuthill told LGN: "Our client wanted 'Views, views, views'! They have a laminated glass 'wall' with windows more than 7m high and six to seven meters wide, through which they get views of the sea, the sky and the 17th Causeway Bridge. We selected laminated glass with SentryGlas® Plus ionoplast interlayer for hurricane protection and also for sound insulation since the house faces a relatively busy inboard boating area."

Laminator Ray Crawford of Crawford Tracey told LGN: "The architect wanted to use the largest possible panes of glass that could meet Florida's building codes. With these large (1.5m x 3m) panes, we were under high design pressure for large missile impact requirements."

"Even under these extreme conditions, we found that laminated glass with DuPont's ionoplast interlayer displayed excellent stress resistance and rigidity and displayed no 'scissoring'. Previously, we would have used glass-clad polycarbonate for this type of demanding, large-pane installation but we switched to SentryGlas® Plus because of its cost efficiency and the fact that we have observed less optical distortion in the DuPont product."
