Bringing all the advantages back home
Florida-based laminator PGT Industries serves growing demand for hurricane protection and security
Dave Olmstead of laminator PGT Industries told LGN: "Homes in all price categories use PGT's WinGuard Impact Resistant Windows and Doors throughout. These consist of laminated glass with DuPont Butacite® to provide hurricane protection and security while maintaining exterior aesthetic appeal."
"Since 1992, when hurricane Andrew caused over US$ 22 billion in insured damage, the insurance companies have been paying a lot of attention to hurricane protection in the form of laminated glass. Laminated glass with DuPont Butacite® , when glazed in an approved window or door system, has passed the toughest building codes in the USA. To the best of our knowledge, during Hurricane Floyd in 1999, all the installations with laminated glass containing Butacite® that we know of remained perfectly undamaged."
"The installation of laminated glass in windows and doors used to be code-driven but now it's a case of consumer demand driving the market. Homeowners have read about the benefits of laminated glass and the insurance discounts (5-15%) you can get if you install it in your home. It's something that people really want." The house shown here, laminated by PGT, is located in Palm Beach.
