Latest KAG Updates

The following is a list of the most recent changes made to the Kalrez® Application Guide (KAG). This list is not all inclusive, but describes the major changes made to the program. For additional information on specific points of interest, please refer to the interactive HELP available on each screen.

June 2020 Release

  1. Minimum Hardness, Shore A – In the Oil and Gas section of the Product Selector, the user has the option to select a minimum hardness for products. The program will then filter out products that fall below the hardness value selected.
  2. RGD Resistance Required – In the Oil and Gas section of the Product Selector, the program can filter out all products that do not have RGD resistance.
  3. Temperature/Pressure application conditions – The program has been upgraded to better reflect the extrusion resistance of products at the input temperature/pressure combination. An internal, proprietary DuPont test method was run to determine extrusion resistance, at the application temperature/pressure conditions, for standard metal to metal clearance gaps (Approximately 0.1mm (0.004”)). This process is used in the Chemical Process, Oil and Gas, and Aerospace industries. For clearance gaps outside of the normal range, please contact DuPont for assistance.

December 2019 Release

  1. Dovetail Groove – Sidewall Height (ID<OD) – This is a new groove design that has been added to the Seal Design section. The user can now select a dovetail groove with an inner diameter sidewall that is lower in height than the outside diameter sidewall. The user can select the ID Wall Height Difference. The program estimates the increase in groove volume available to the o-ring due to the lower inside diameter wall height.
  2. Sidewall Angle for Dovetail Grooves – The sidewall angle used for dovetail grooves has now been changed. This change was made to more accurately reflect industry standards. As an example, a sidewall angle that was previously shown as 24° in the KAG, will now be listed as 66°. Selecting the option, View Seal Design, will clearly define the sidewall angle. The calculation results are the same as before, only the sidewall angle designation has changed.
  3. Set Sidewall Angle for Dovetail Grooves – In the Seal Design section, for Designing a Groove for a Specific Size O-ring, the user can now set a sidewall angle for the Dovetail Groove and Dovetail Groove – Sidewall Height (ID<OD). This feature allows the user to quickly determine whether a specific sidewall angle can be used in a groove design. For example, will there be sufficient free volume for a specific sidewall angle and process conditions.
  4. Kalrez® 9600 – Kalrez® 9600 can now be chosen as a standard product for use in the Seal Design section.
  5. Compare Products – The Kalrez® Product Selector section assists the user in the selection of products for industry applications. When a chemical, or chemicals, is selected, and products are suggested, the user can now select Compare Products and see a table that compares the basic properties of these products.
  6. Apply Tolerances – In the Seal Design section, the Apply Tolerances section will now show a table that has the “+” tolerance value first, and the “-” tolerance value second. This is more closely aligned with industry standards.
  7. Semiconductor – Plasma Gas Process Types – Under Kalrez® Product Selection, the Semiconductor – Plasma Gas section has further broken down the choices for Process Types. This change has been made to better assist in the proper selection of Kalrez® products for specific applications.
