# Els per PV

WAVE defaults to five (5) membranes per pressure vessel. The pressure vessel length defaults to # Els per PV + 1. Therefore, the default length of the PV is 6 elements (i.e. five membrane elements and one element spacer). The pressure vessel length is adjusted in the Flow Calculator. If the user inputs six (6) elements per vessel, the PV length will automatically adjust to seven (7). The pressure vessel length can be adjusted to match the number of installed elements. The element spacer provides flexibility to run at lower recovery, it is typical and recommended, but not an absolute requirement.
