DuPont donates $80,000 to National Fallen Firefighters Foundation

Between October 1, 2017, and December 31, 2018, DuPont partnered with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to launch the Innovating to Protect, Donating to Honor campaign. During that time, DuPont made a donation to the NFFF for every thermal liner made with Nomex® Nano and hood made with Nomex® Nano Flex sold by authorized licensees in the United States. The program was successful in raising over $80,000 to support the NFFF’s mission of honoring fallen fire heroes and their families.

Dedicated to their memory

Established by the U.S. Congress in 1992, the nonprofit NFFF has since led a nationwide effort to memorialize America’s fallen firefighters. Headquartered in Emmitsburg, Maryland, the NFFF has as its mission “to honor and remember America's fallen fire heroes, to provide resources to assist their survivors in rebuilding their lives, and work within the fire service community to reduce firefighter deaths and injuries.”

Along with a range of survivor-support services and other programs, the NFFF maintains the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial, a monument dedicated to career and volunteer fallen firefighters from around the U.S., located on the campus of the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Constructed in 1981, the site features plaques bearing the names of fallen firefighters. Each year, a memorial service is held to honor them.

Focused on innovation

The DuPont Protection Solutions/NFFF campaign focuses on how innovation can help better protect firefighters in two critical areas—heat stress and particulate exposures—and honors them and the communities they serve by giving a portion of those innovation profits to an organization they respect and support.

The campaign dovetails with a major initiative recently launched by NFFF to reduce line-of-duty firefighter deaths by 25 percent in five years by mitigating heat stress and reducing particulate exposures. The two next-generation products featuring Nomex® in the campaign—thermal liners made with Nomex® Nano and flame-resistant (FR) hoods made with Nomex® Nano Flex material—were engineered by our licensees with precisely these objectives in mind.

DuPont Protection Solutions would like to thank the following partners for their support and commitment to this campaign:
