DuPont™ Sorona® Awarded Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 Certification

"Receiving Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 Class 1 certification for Sorona® provides third-party  validation of the safety of Sorona® for use in all fiber applications."

- Walter L. Fields, III, Global Business Director

Receipt of the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 Class 1 Certification means DuPont™ Sorona® has passed the most stringent third-party safety test in the textiles industry. Awarded by Oeko-Tex® and the Hohenstein Textile Testing Institute, the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 Certification means Sorona® is approved for use in apparel, home, office, automotive interiors, and commercial and residential carpeting. The "Class 1" designation means Sorona® is so safe it has been certified for carpeting and textile applications intended for infants and toddlers.

Look for the Oeko-Tex® Label

The Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 is an international testing and certification system restricting the use of unsafe chemicals in textiles. Headquartered in Zurich, the Oeko-Tex Association has offices in over 40 countries and responsibility for the standard is shared by 15 test institutes. The testing methods and criteria are standardized at the international level providing a global safety benchmark for consumers, and for apparel brands and carpeting mills seeking optimal safety in textile products. Oeko-Tex® safety protocols have become an indispensable component of textile manufacturing quality assurance, checking for harmful substances at every step in the production chain.

Safe Enough for a Baby’s Skin, Easy on the Environment

Sorona® polymer is raising the bar for safety in textiles. But it’s also an environmentally-responsible material. Sorona® contains 37% renewably-sourced, plant-based material by weight, so Sorona® has a smaller ecological footprint than petroleum-based nylon. The production of Sorona® also consumes less energy and results in fewer greenhouse gas emissions than the production of an equal amount of nylon. And unlike some other materials, Sorona® is entirely free of heavy metals.

"This certification is further assurance of the desirability of this fiber for many textile designers concerned about long-term sustainability and technical superiority."

- Sam Moore Ph.D, Oeko-Tex®, North America
