Two Key Growth Stages
The critical time for potato development is typically the period from 20 days after emergence to 50 days after emergence (roughly 40 to 70 days after planting). “The worst thing in the world for potato growers is when they see the first sign of late blight,” says Tatiana Neves, DuPont marketing coordinator for the districts of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. “It’s an ongoing concern: what to apply, when to apply, whether the weather will cooperate, whether you have enough machinery to cover the area.”

After comparing two applications of Zorvec™ to four applications of another fungicide in a field trial over two weeks, Neves realized she was seeing a major difference.
“I was openmouthed,” Neves recalls. “I’m unaware of any other product in the market that provides this level of prevention and disease control. Besides requiring a lot more applications [in the field treated with standard fungicides], the disease got worse. It did not get out of control, but it slowly got worse. Each application you save means less hours, less machinery, less people, water, diesel, everything.”
By using Zorvec™, growers can reduce the number of applications. Celsio Pelosi, who works in Brazil on new product development for DuPont, agrees. “Consequently, they will enter the field fewer times. They can reduce labor by applying once a week versus three times a week.”
