NESC® C2 – National Electrical Safety Code®

Standard Title:  National Electrical Safety Code®

Edition:  2012

Purpose:  The purpose of the NESC® is the practical safeguarding of persons during the installation, operation, or maintenance of electrical supply and communication lines, equipment, and associated work practices employed by a public or private electric supply, communications, railway, or similar utility in the exercise of its function as a utility.  The NESC® includes installation requirements to protect the public from contact with hazardous voltages and rules to protect utility workers in the construction, maintenance, and operation of electric supply and communication lines and equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1.    What is ANSI/IEEE C2 National Electrical Safety Code® and why is compliance to this standard so important?
Approximately 50% of occupational fatalities from electrical hazards result from contact with overhead powerlines. 1  The NESC® provides installation requirements intended to reduce probability of unintentional contact with overhead lines.  It also provides work rules to protect utility workers during construction, operations and maintenance of transmission and distribution lines.

  • Thermo-Man® Demonstration Unit

DuPont’s commitment to safety stands at 6’1” and is covered with 122 heat sensors. Thermo-Man® is one of the most advanced thermal burn injury evaluation devices in the world and helps DuPont test the performance of flame-resistant garments.

  • Nomex® III A

For hazards like flash fire, pool fire, and molten metal splash, DuPont created Nomex® III A — a blend of 93% Nomex® with 5% Kevlar® and 2% antistatic fiber that expands to form a stable and inert barrier between fire and skin.

  • Nomex® Fibers

DuPont™ Nomex® fibers are heat- and flame-resistant, and are used in protective fabrics, garments, insulation, and other high-performance applications to help provide protection to millions of people and processes worldwide.

  • Tychem® ThermoPro

A single-layer garment, Tychem® ThermoPro offers triple-hazard protection from liquid-chemical splash, flash fire, and electric arc.

  • Tempro® Coveralls

Tempro® coveralls provide a barrier against non-hazardous particles, helping to safeguard primary flame resistant protective garments from nuisance contamination.
