Yokohama, Japan, May 22, 2024 – DuPont (NYSE:DD) is excited to participate at the Automotive Engineering Exposition hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan (JSAE) in Yokohama, Japan, from May 22 to May 24, 2024 at booth no 245 and in Nagoya in July 2024 at booth no #68.

Over the years, DuPont has maintained a strong presence in automotive, and the 2024 JSAE events serve as excellent opportunities to showcase latest innovations from MOLYKOTE® specialty lubricants and Vespel® Parts and Shapes.

Zhang Xin, DuPont APAC Business Leader, MOLYKOTE® & Vespel®, said “With decades of bringing market driven solutions and technical expertise in automotive, DuPont remains at the forefront of innovation in mobility solutions. At JSAE 2024, we are proud to showcase the latest offering from MOLYKOTE® specialty lubricants and the well-known high-performance polyimides from our Vespel® product line to help meet our customers’ goals of improved fuel economy, reduced emissions, and enhanced engine and component performance.”

With a diverse range of over 500 anti-friction coatings, compounds, dispersions, greases, oils and fluids, and pastes, DuPont MOLYKOTE® specialty lubricants provide solutions to a wide range of lubrication areas. Available through a global network, MOLYKOTE® has a proven track record of improving vehicle energy efficiency, ensuring safety and reliability, reducing NVH & BSR issues to increase riding comfort, and meeting low maintenance goals by providing lifetime protection in almost every architecture system of the vehicle, including powertrain or e-drivetrain, chassis & brakes, interior & HVAC, and exterior & body.

DuPont Vespel® SP polyimide was originally developed in cooperation with NASA for the Apollo Space Project. Over the past 60 years, the Vespel® parts and shapes portfolio has expanded to include a variety of different grades, each with unique performance characteristics achieved by varying types and levels of fillers and different manufacturing methods for parts or shapes. Vespel® parts and shapes are excellent tribomaterials with exceptional thermal resistance, low wear, and/or low friction properties. Vespel® parts and shapes are ideal for high-pressure, velocity-resistant thrust washers and seal rings.

This year, DuPont is introducing new products designed to meet the current needs of automotive ’customers, including the MOLYKOTE® D-6804 Anti-Friction Coating and MOLYKOTE® D-6818 Anti-Friction Coating. These specially developed anti-friction coatings have improved wear resistance to protect engine components from stress under extreme conditions.

MOLYKOTE® D-6804 Anti-Friction Coating addresses the challenges of using biofuels such as ethanol or methanol to power car engines. It has a higher viscosity formulation, which makes it suitable for screen printing. Key features and benefits include:

  • High wear resistance to counteract the increase in cylinder pressure from biofuel-based engines
  • Compatibility with bio-fuels, including ethanol, methanol or their blends with fossil fuel
  • Ideal for use in biofuel (or Flex-Fuel) engine pistons for passenger vehicles, marine vessels, power sports and off-road vehicles, and motorcycles.

MOLYKOTE® D-6818 Anti-Friction Coating is developed specifically for use in high-quality engine bearings for both traditional internal combustion engine vehicles and hybrid vehicles, including HEV, PHEV, and EREV. With a low-viscosity formulation for the spray process, the coating can withstand extremely high loading pressure. Its key features and benefits include:

  • High wearing resistance to withstand extremely high loading pressure
  • Ideal for use in internal combustion engine bearings (including main crankshaft bearings connecting rod bearings, camshaft bush, and small end bushes), thrust bearings of centrifugal compressors, bearing shell, or bushing of a turbine, and EV differential washers.

With the combined forces of MOLYKOTE® specialty lubricants and Vespel® parts and shapes, DuPont is committed to developing materials and technologies that address key customer challenges, providing sustainable advanced mobility solutions that don’t compromise on safety, durability or performance.
