DuPont™ Thermax™ Sheathing Insulation

Nonstructural, Glass-Fiber-Infused Rigid Polyiso Insulation
DuPont™ Thermax™ Sheathing Polyisocyanurate Insulation is a non-structural, rigid board insulation consisting of a glass-fiber-infused polyisocyanurate foam core laminated between 1 mil smooth, reflective aluminum facers on both sides. The glass-fiber reinforcement contributes to improved fire performance and dimensional stability.

Thermax™ Sheathing Insulation also offers high, long-term thermal resistance, with facers that help prevent water and water vapor intrusion into the insulation foam allowing it to stabilize at a higher R-value. In the USA, Thermax™ Sheathing can be installed as exterior continuous insulation and also installed exposed to the interior without a thermal barrier. Used in conjunction with the appropriate joint closure system for the application, Thermax™ Sheathing – with its low perm rating – can help to reduce moisture condensation within and behind the insulation.

FAQ

Can DuPont™ Thermax™ Brand Insulation be left exposed to the building interior?
Thermax™ Brand Insulation products can be left exposed to the building interior (i.e., without a thermal barrier such as 1/2 inch gypsum wallboard) in specific non-rated ceiling assemblies or non-rated construction in commercial, industrial and agricultural buildings. Thermax™ Brand Insulation products cannot be left exposed to exterior conditions.

The use of Thermax™ Brand Insulation exposed to the building interior is documented with a Code Compliance Research Report (CCRR-0440).

NOTE: Thermax™ cannot be used as a duct work or plenum insulation- it does not meet the IBC /IMC for flame spread of 25 or less and smoke developed of 50 or less

How much does DuPont™ Thermax™ Sheathing Insulation weigh?
0.15 lb/ft2
To get weight of 1 inch x 4 feet x 8 feet board multiple the value by 32
Example: Thermax™ Sheathing Insulation 1in x 4ft x 8ft weighs (0.15 x 32) = 4.8 lbs
What are the ASTM C1289 classifications for DuPont polyisocyanurate products ?
The ASTM C1289 classifications for DuPontpolyisocyanurate products are as shown below:
ASTM C1289 Types Products
Type I, Class I Tuff-R™ Insulation (< 1')
Type I, Class 2 Tuff-R™ Insulation (≥ 1')
Type I, Class 2 Thermax™ Basic NH Insulation
Type I, Class 2 Thermax™ Heavy Duty Insulation
Type I, Class 2 Thermax™ Light Duty NH Insulation
Type I, Class 2 Thermax™ XARMOR™ (ci) Exterior Insulation
Type I, Class 2 Thermax™ Metal Building Board NH Insulation
Type I, Class 2 Thermax™ White Finish NH Insulation

Type1 - Faced with aluminum foil on both major surfaces of the core foam. Class 1 - Non-reinforced core foam. Class 2 - Glass fiber reinforced core foam. Dimensional stability will be greater than Class 1 when fastened properly. ASTM C1289 Class 2 exceeds Class 1 requirements.

What are the fastening requirements to secure DuPont™ Thermax™ Sheathing Insulation in a standing seam metal roof application?
To meet the appropriate wind uplift criteria, please contact the Standing Seam Roof Manufacturer for proper fastener type and fastening pattern. With Thermax™ insulation boards, a general guideline is to use a minimum of 5-8 fasteners with roof plates (to offset loading) penetrating 3/4' into framing or substrate. If the Thermax™ insulation is exposed to the interior of the building and is FM insured, consult with DuPont Building Knowledge Center (BKC) for latest FM approval.
