    TUFF-R™ (ci) Exterior Insulation
Styrofoam™ Brand Tuff-R™ (ci) Insulation Board is a non-structural, rigid board insulation consisting of a glass-fiber-infused, closedcell polyisocyanurate foam core laminated between 1.0 mil smooth reflective aluminum facers on both sides. Styrofoam™ Brand Tuff-R™ (ci) meets ASTM C1289 – Standard Specification for Faced Rigid Cellular Polyisocyanurate Thermal Insulation Board, Type I, Class 2. Applicable standards include: • C203 – Standard Test Methods for Breaking Load and Flexural Properties of Block-Type Thermal Insulation • C209 – Standard Test Methods for Cellulosic Fiber Insulating Board • C518 – Standard Test Method for Steady- State Thermal Transmission Properties by Means of the Heat Flow Meter Apparatus • D1621 – Standard Test Method for Compressive Properties of Rigid Cellular Plastics • D2126 – Standard Test Method for Response of Rigid Cellular Plastics to Thermal and Humid Aging • E96 – Standard Test Method for Water Vapor Transmission of Materials • D1623 – Standard Test Method for Tensile and Tensile Adhesion Properties of Rigid Cellular Plastics Product Information Sheet
    TUFF-R™ Insulation
Styrofoam™ Brand Tuff-R™ and Super Tuff-R™ Polyisocyanurate Insulation products consist of high-performance, high R-value, closed-cell polyisocyanurate foam core boards sandwiched between a choice of durable exterior foil facers. The polyisocyanurate insulation is created by an exclusive free-rise manufacturing process, which produces a uniform, closed-cell foam for better insulation performance. On Styrofoam™ Brand Tuff-R™ Insulation, one facer is a continuous sheet of aluminum foil; the other is a Tri-Plex facer consisting of a three-ply laminate of durable kraft with aluminum foil on both sides. When additional durability is required, Super Tuff-R™ is the preferred product. One side blue, the other side reflective foil, its Super Tri-Plex facers feature three-ply laminates of durable polyester, kraft and reinforced aluminum foil. Styrofoam™ Brand Tuff-R™ and Super Tuff-R™ help reduce air infiltration through the wall by covering cracks between the framing members and sealing tightly against the studs. Styrofoam™ Brand Tuff-R™ and Super Tuff-R™ insulation products comply with the following codes and standards: • International Residential Code (IRC) and International Building Code (IBC); see ICC-ES ESR-3089 • ASTM C1289 Type I • Calif. 1 Values are consistent with the criteria of ASTM C578 and the requirements of the FTC R-value rule (16 CFR Part 460).

2 R means resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power.

3 Vertical compressive strength is measured at 10 percent deformation or at yield, whichever occurs first. Since Styrofoam™ Brand Extruded Polystyrene Foam Insulations are visco-elastic materials, adequate design safety factors should be used to prevent long-term creep and fatigue deformation. For static loads, 3:1 is suggested. For dynamic loads, 10:1 is suggested.

4 Water vapor permeance varies with product type and thickness. Values are based on the desiccant method, and they apply to insulation 1" in thickness. Thicker products have lower permeance. Based on 1” thickness.
