Flame Resistant Nomex® Brand Fiber — Trusted Thermal Protection
Mass transit systems, wind energy, transformers, filtration — not all industries that rely on the inherent protection of Nomex® are life-saving ones.
But they’re still essential to our way of life.
It started with a flight suit. And 40 years later, DuPont™ Nomex® fiber is still a first choice for workers who rely on its inherently flame resistant properties to help keep them safe from the everyday hazards they face.
We go beyond basic test methods to help ensure that workers stay protected. Our Thermo-Man® testing lab puts garments made of Nomex® fiber through a rigorous series of fire scenarios that simulate real-life situations — making it one of the most advanced thermal burn injury evaluation devices in the world. Our dedication to safety has made Nomex® the go-to fabric for manufacturers who make products for protecting firefighters, Air Force pilots, and industrial workers.
And we’re not stopping there. We’re constantly working with mills and garment manufacturers to help them make products made from flame resistant Nomex® brand fiber stronger, more durable and safer. We’ve expanded its uses and applications to include transformers, motors, and generators. Our commitment to innovation is the same as it’s been for the past four decades. Our mission is to: help people and materials perform better — even in extreme conditions.
DuPont and LION have collaborated on a new offering for firefighters and first responders: gear that protects, from the inside-out with the most advanced blends of DuPont™ Kevlar® filament and DuPont™ Nomex® and Kevlar® staple. LION, a global leader in protective gear for first responders, was the first company to adopt new Kevlar® products in blends with Nomex® to provide maximum protection.
DuPont Protection Technologies is pleased to announce the winner of the 2012 DuPont™ Kevlar® Innovation Awards. This year’s EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) award was bestowed to Techplast, a company based in Poland, for their innovative use of Kevlar® in SAFER® ultra-light composite cylinders.
DuPont opened its latest ballistics testing facility at the DuPont Knowledge Center in Hyderabad, India.
USES AND APPLICATIONS
French engineer Nadege Louerat helps build one of the biggest airplanes in the world – the Airbus A380. DuPont works closely with Airbus to help them provide lightweight, composite materials like honeycombs made of Nomex® and Kevlar®, which are used in the Airbus A380 to help increase airplane fuel efficiency and reduce aviation emissions.
DUPONT PRODUCTS & SERVICES
Nomex® XF is a unique material that helps protect aluminum fuselage aircraft by providing a robust, durable and lightweight flame barrier that can help prevent outside fire from penetrating an aircraft cabin, allowing passengers additional time to escape such a hazard.
DuPont™ Nomex® fibers are heat- and flame-resistant, and are used in protective fabrics, garments, insulation, and other high-performance applications to help provide protection to millions of people and processes worldwide.
