DuPont™ IntegraTec™ Ultrafiltration Helps Pakistan Hospital Secure Clean Water

A new drinking water treatment solution using donated DuPont™ IntegraTec™ ultrafiltration membranes has expanded access to high-quality drinking water for hospital patients

The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) in Karachi, Pakistan was facing drinking water challenges, with a history of water shortages and a lack of drinking water in the hospital wards. Helping to realize its vision of a water-optimized world, DuPont Water Solutions donated funds and DuPont IntegraTec™ ultrafiltration modules for a new water treatment plant to allow patients and staff across the hospital’s 148-acre estate to gain access to a reliable source of high-quality, clean, and safe drinking water. The donation also supported the installation of dispensers to provide free access to drinking water for patients in the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Department.

Capable of producing 10,000 gallons of potable water a day, this plant is supporting the work of JPMC which is visited by more than one million patients a year, all of whom receive treatment free of charge. Annually, the 1600-bed hospital admits approximately 60,000 patients, performs 30,000 surgeries, and delivers 15,000 newborn babies. Its Accident and Emergency Department is the busiest facility of its kind in Karachi, caring for approximately 1,200 patients a day*. 

The project has been so successful that the Patients’ Aid Foundation is planning to expand the use of dispensers throughout the rest of the JPMC to further improve access to clean drinking water.
