Solving the purification challenges of glycol coolant in transportation

The transportation industry has rapidly evolved over the last decade. The shift towards green mobility and electrification of vehicles has brought new challenges especially for electric vehicle (EV) thermal management cooling systems. From light duty passenger to heavy duty commercial vehicles, the management of heat within the battery and fuel cell systems are critical to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. Unlike internal combustion engines, electric vehicles need to run at cooler temperatures otherwise there is a risk for shocks, short circuits, and power system failures.

Liquid cooling systems are the thermal management system of choice for EV manufacturers. These liquid cooling systems require that the glycol-water coolant is free from impurities that can arise from the degradation of coolants, parts, and components over the lifetime of the vehicle. DuPont™ AmberLite™ resins are designed for the purification of glycol-water coolants within EVs. These new resins can purify high levels of contaminants at extreme temperatures, with low additive uptake, without sacrificing their operational capacity, ultimately ensuring low system conductivity.

As a global market leader in ion exchange resins, with over 80 years of experience, DuPont offers application specific products for use in e-mobility. With our solutions, we are helping to drive the electrification of the transportation industry, empowering the world with the essential innovations to thrive.
