Packaging Design and Testing—Focus of DuPont Medical Packaging Seminar in Dominican Republic

Tyvek® Rx: March 2015

During the past decade, the Dominican Republic has experienced significant growth in medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturing. In fact, it is now home to one of the largest and most competitive clusters of medical device manufacturing in Latin America—with 27 multinational corporations employing more than 20,000 people. Currently, 61 lines of medical device products manufactured in the Dominican Republic are exported to 85 countries around the world.

On January 20, 2015, more than 40 packaging engineers gathered in the Dominican Republic to attend the latest in a series of educational seminars hosted by DuPont Medical and Pharmaceutical Protection.

The focus of this seminar was on packaging design and testing. During this information-packed day, participants gained valuable insights and practical information about:

  • Package design principles;
  • Testing and validation methods for sterile barrier materials; and
  • Microbial barrier testing for porous packages.

In addition, participants learned about the use of DuPont™ Tyvek® for medical packaging applications and received an overview of the Tyvek® Medical Packaging Transition Project (MPTP).

Following the formal presentations and Q&A session, a networking reception was held. The day proved to be a great experience for both new and veteran packaging engineers.

Seminar speakers from DuPont Medical and Pharmaceutical Protection included: Jose Arevalo, Business Development Manager, Eastern Region and Latin America; and Marc Bandman, Global Market Development. Wendy Mach, B.S., RM, CQA, CPLP, Packaging Section Leader at Nelson Laboratories, also shared her expertise during this seminar.

Additional educational seminars will be held throughout the year at various locations around the world. Dates and locations will be posted at as they are scheduled. We hope you will be able to join us at one of these seminars.
