Building Type: Institutional, New Construction
Solution: ArmorWall Vapor Permeable (VP) and ArmorWall Below Grade (BG) Structural Insulated Sheathing
Sales Representative: Carolina REP
Architect: Duda|Paine Architects LLP
General Contractor: Barnhill Contracting, Co.
Installer: Precision Walls, Inc.
In 2019, Duda Paine Architects LLP was looking for a building enclosure solution that could be installed quickly and in many different types of weather to help clients save time and money on projects, particularly those taking place in the rainy spring season of North Carolina. Through an educational lunch-n-learn with Carolina REP’s Sales Representative Beau Preston, the firm’s staff was introduced to ArmorWall Structural Insulated Sheathing. Soon after, the firm completed a very extensive submittal process that led them to specify ArmorWall Vapor Permeable (VP) for a new project. Using ArmorWall VP saved an entire trade from being added to the job, reducing trade overlap and creating less work for the general contractor. Installer Precision Walls started with ArmorWall Below Grade (BG) around the foundation and followed up with ArmorWall Vapor Permeable (VP) on the above grade exterior walls. The installation went so fast that the Precision Walls install team had to slow down several times!

Designer Friendly
This building was one of the first to specify ArmorWall in its original plans. No longer requiring the exterior finish to go back to the stud provides an unrestrictive and uninterrupted blank canvas.
NFPA 285 Tested
ArmorWall passed the NFPA 285 on its own without a required cladding on the front. This allows most UL tested, listed, and approved exterior finishes to qualify as part of the complete wall assembly.
Fast Installation
Installation started with ArmorWall BG around the foundation and followed up with ArmorWall VP on the above grade exterior walls. The installation went so fast that the install team had to slow down several times!
Contractor Friendly
Using ArmorWall VP saved an entire trade from being added to the job, reducing trade overlap and creating less work for the general contractor.
Weather Was No Issue
ArmorWall is a building enclosure solution that can be installed quickly and in many different types of weather to help clients save time and money on projects, particularly those taking place in the rainy spring season of North Carolina.

What benefits made you interested in using ArmorWall?
“What I like best about ArmorWall is having the integrated water-resistant barrier and structural insulated sheathing in one product.”
How did the installation process go?
“Once we identified the most efficient way to install ArmorWall, it was really easy. Our guys became very proficient, saving money for our client rather than just making budget.”
Do you feel by using ArmorWall, the project was weathered in faster?
“The project was 100% weathered in faster. We were five to six weeks behind on the construction schedule due to delays with steel. ArmorWall got us back on track. We were framed and sheathed in six weeks, saving us three to four weeks on the project schedule.”
Would you use ArmorWall again?
“I would absolutely use the ArmorWall series again. You are cutting out all the extra parts that generally delay a job due to inspections. With ArmorWall, you have a one stop shop that creates a seamless process from start to finish. Not to mention the excellent customer service you receive had any concerns arise. I don’t think we could have finished the project as early and as cost effectively without ArmorWall.”
