DuPont™ Kevlar® Trademarking and Licensing Information

The DuPont™ Kevlar® Brand

While protecting the Kevlar® brand may not be something you think much about when developing your materials, it is critical to the successful management of this valuable DuPont asset. One way you can play an active role in protecting the Kevlar® brand is through the correct use of the trademark.

Proper, authorized use of this legal asset adds significant value to both your business and your product offerings. Improper use of the trademark, however, lowers the quality and the value of the Kevlar® brand, ultimately causing this respected trademark to be referred to in common, generic terms — very much the same way "Kleenex®" is often used to refer to "tissue" and "Band-Aid®" is frequently used to refer to "bandage."

Protecting the Brand in All Collateral

This section will help you, DuPont, and our customers keep Kevlar® from becoming generic, as well as ensure that all of us continue to reap the benefits this strong brand provides. The guidelines apply to any type of collateral material in which the Kevlar® brand is mentioned — printed brochures, catalogues, packaging, exhibition media, Web sites, Internet pages, or any other materials.

These guidelines are intended solely to provide guidance in the proper use of the DuPont trademarks referenced herein and do not constitute a license, implied or otherwise, to use any DuPont trademark.

Use of the DuPont Oval

Use of the DuPont oval trademark and the DuPont signature is reserved for DuPont. The signature consists of two elements: the tagline (The miracles of science™) attached to the oval. Only DuPont and its wholly owned subsidiaries, when licensed to do so, may use the trademark in connection with goods and services offered globally by our company. In certain cases, there may be exceptions. These exceptions are:

  • Businesses controlled by DuPont, such as joint ventures
  • Resellers of DuPont products who supply them in their original form and packages

Use of the DuPont™ Kevlar® Logo

Customers and distributors are required to have a written license agreement with DuPont in order to use the Kevlar® logo on their product labels, hang tags, packaging, shipping containers, promotional material, and advertisements.

The DuPont oval, DuPont™, The miracles of science™, and Kevlar® are trademarks or registered trademarks of DuPont or its affiliates.

Kleenex® is a registered trademark of Kimberly-Clark Corporation. Band-Aid® is a registered trademark of Johnson & Johnson.

  • Kevlar® Thermal Protection Products

For hot surface contact hazards present in metal and glass forming foundries, DuPont created terry cloth made of Kevlar® fibre for use in heat-resistant gloves. Heavyweight gloves and mitts composed of 100% Kevlar® terry cloth and Kevlar® blends help offer a high level of protection for high-heat applications.

  • Kevlar® XP™ technology for Soft Armor

Kevlar® XP technology for Soft Armor offers our finest protection for manufacturers to offer designs for increased bullet-stopping power and reduced back face trauma while being light and comfortable enough to be worn shift after shift.

  • Nomex® & Kevlar® Firefighter Protection

In firefighting, two fibers are better than one. Together, Kevlar® fiber and Nomex® fiber help offer inherent fire resistance, strength, durability, and more.

  • Kevlar® Armor Technology

For high-risk operations that involve sharp metal, glass hazards and abrasives, DuPont created Kevlar® Armor Technology. Used in the manufacture of protective gloves and garments, it helps manufacturers address the highest cut performance standards.

  • Kevlar® Clean Technology

Because low-contamination environments can also present many hazards that can result in burns, cuts, and gashes, DuPont created Kevlar® Clean Technology — it is a low-lint continuous filament fibre that helps offer superior protection while reducing contaminants.
