Barbara Dawson named 2020 Responsible Care® Employee of the Year
 
 
 

Barbara Dawson, DuPont Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Fellow, will receive the highly coveted American Chemical Council (ACC) 2020 Responsible Care® Employee of the Year Award.

Each year, the ACC recognizes one Member and one Partner company employee for exemplary  leadership in the Responsible Care® program and this year is no exception. Barbara received this prestigious honor on May 4, for her steadfast focus and dedication, providing exceptional leadership to advance environmental, health, safety and security performance, commitment to sustainability and sound chemicals management performance across DuPont and the industry. 

"Barbara has made an extraordinary impact on advancing EH&S performance, in turn supporting ACC's mission to improve lives while protecting our environment and enhancing the economic vitality of our communities," said Daryl Roberts, Senior Vice President of Operations and Engineering, who is also an active ACC Board member.  "Barbara is blazing a trail for our company and the industry. Today, as a Fellow in the EH&S Center of Excellence, Barbara brings technical expertise, training and auditing support to global industrial hygiene resources, sites and businesses.  She is a Certified Industrial Hygienist recognized by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, and likewise, a Certified Safety Professional by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals

In 2019, Barbara made several key contributions, developing high standards that enable sites to implement robust Occupational Hygiene programs and enhance worker safety.  She actively leads the North America Occupational Hygiene network, and in that capacity, sets the stage for sites to implement  best practices, regulatory compliance and training that advances EH&S performance throughout the global organization. 

"Barbara is a tremendous asset to DuPont and the field of EH&S," said Kimberly Markiewicz, DuPont vice president of EH&S.  "Her contributions helped us achieve year-over-year improvement in EH&S in 2019, beating a company record for injury and illness performance."

Barbara is well recognized as an expert in Occupational Hygiene and is often sought by others as a coach in that area.  During her 31-year career with DuPont, she has inspired and mentored industrial hygienists throughout the Company, leading many to become Certified Industrial Hygienists.  Recognized as a subject matter expert internally and externally, she's also actively involved in several organizations including the American Industrial Hygiene Association, where she has served as the Yuma-Pacific Section President-Elect from January 2019 to January 2020 and the NIOSH Manufacturing Sector Council. 

Throughout the course of her career, she has set the stage for success, making impacts on all levels of the organization and is often tapped as an expert consultant to a broad range of stakeholders.  This award further recognizes Barbara's commitment to Responsible Care®, leadership and years of meaningful contributions  across the field of EH&S.
