When you choose DuPont™ Liveo™ Healthcare Solutions, you benefit from a depth of knowledge, experience and processes that can help you bring new formulations to market:
DuPont™ Liveo™ offers a wide range of silicone excipients and customized blends to address a variety of customer-specific needs. Our silicones are used widely in many different pharmaceutical applications and dermatological therapies.
Formulations with silicone material offer various dosage forms and textures; they also provide efficient drug delivery, proven aesthetics, functional film characteristics and long-lasting effects that are well-adapted for different skin diseases. In terms of patients’ compliance with treatment, the optimized efficiency of drug delivery and the behavior of silicone-containing formulations on skin can lead to better perceived efficacy and a more pleasant sensory feel, encouraging greater compliance.
We help optimize the drug delivery efficacy and the texture of formulations for local pain management, acne and scar treatment, and advanced wound care and ostomy – as well as formulations to treat specific skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, actinic keratosis, rosacea and fungal infections. Selected indications and formulation concepts are outlined below.
ACNE
Affecting an estimated 660 million people globally, acne is the 8th most common disease worldwide. Acne occurs when hair follicles become clogged with dead skin cells and oil, and it is attributed to a variety of lifestyle-related factors. DuPont™ Liveo™ silicone materials are recognized as non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic, which makes them ingredients of choice for acne management.
Cream ____ Cream to treat acne will provide a richer texture and will help for dry skin. The presence of water phase in the formulation will help to disperse hydrophilic active ingredients such as salicylic acid and benzoic acid. |
ANTIFUNGAL
Antifungal medicines (“antifungals”) are used to treat fungal infections that commonly occur on the skin. Antifungal medicines may be either fungicidal (kills fungus) or fungistatic (slows growth of fungus). Antifungals treat several types of fungal skin infections, ranging from ringworm to dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis) to fingernail infections and toenail fungus to vaginal yeast infections and more.
Liquid ____ One option for treating fungal infections is anti-fungal sprays. In some case, anti-fungal sprays are preferred because they're easy to apply and they drying time is a key factor. |
DRY SKIN
Skin that lacks adequate moisture is considered to be dry. To treat dry skin, a formulation should provide hydration and ideally will leave a smooth, pleasant film on the skin.
Cream ____ Cream is developed to prevent dry, cracked skin while keeping it supple and moisturized. |
OSTOMY
Ostomy care products that are gentle, effective, pleasant-feeling and easy to use encourage patients to take better care of the skin around their stoma. When properly treated, the skin stays healthier and the patient experiences less discomfort, making life with an ostomy a more positive experience.
Cream ____ Function of barrier cream: To help prevent and protect against potential skin damage |
Spray ____ Function of barrier spray: Protects against potential skin damage without affecting the adhesion of the baseplate. |
PSORIASIS
125 million people worldwide – or 2-3% of the total global population – have psoriasis, a skin disorder characterized by red, flaky, scaly skin and white, dead skin cell buildup. Of the patients treated topically for psoriasis, 70% are non-compliant.
Cream ____ Creams are commonly used to treat mild to moderate psoriasis in most areas of the body. Creams are easy to use. |
SCAR MANAGEMENT
Scars are treated using both invasive techniques, such as surgery, and non-invasive techniques, such as topical treatment products. These products and procedures are used to treat all types of scars, such as keloid scars, contracture scars, hypertrophic scars, scars from burns and atrophic scars. DuPont™ Liveo™ silicone materials are used in product formulations for first-line therapy in scar management.
Gel ____ Topical gel is one of the most popular forms for scar management. It is easy to apply and cosmetically acceptable. |
Cream ____ Topical creams are used for their moisturizing effect and allow the addition of hydrophobic active which helps to reduce the scar. |
ATOPIC DERMATITIS
Eczema is a chronic, non-contagious inflammatory skin disease that affects 15 to 25% of people worldwide; it is becoming increasingly frequent.
Atopic dermatitis is the most common form of eczema; 1 in 10 people will develop atopic dermatitis during their lifetime.
Cream ____ Silky feel cream that may increase patient compliance, making them ingredients of choice for management of atopic dermatitis and eczema. |
