Innovative silicone excipients & blends to enhance your formulations

DuPont™ Liveo™ offers a wide range of silicone excipients and customized blends to address a variety of customer-specific needs. Our silicones are used widely in many different pharmaceutical applications and dermatological therapies.

Formulations with silicone material offer various dosage forms and textures; they also provide efficient drug delivery, proven aesthetics, functional film characteristics and long-lasting effects that are well-adapted for different skin diseases. Formulation concepts for treatment of common indications

ACNE

Affecting an estimated 660 million people globally, acne is the 8th most common disease worldwide. Acne occurs when hair follicles become clogged with dead skin cells and oil, and it is attributed to a variety of lifestyle-related factors. DuPont™ Liveo™ silicone materials are recognized as non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic, which makes them ingredients of choice for acne management.

Cream to treat acne will provide a richer texture and will help for dry skin. The presence of water phase in the formulation will help to disperse hydrophilic active ingredients such as salicylic acid and benzoic acid.

 

  • Acne Matte Serum AC3016: This cream is semi-occlusive on skin and offers a mattifying effect and smooth, light, pleasant feel on skin. It is a suitable matrix for drug delivery of hydrophilic active, such as salicylic acid.
 
 
 

ANTIFUNGAL

Antifungal medicines (“antifungals”) are used to treat fungal infections that commonly occur on the skin. Antifungal medicines may be either fungicidal (kills fungus) or fungistatic (slows growth of fungus). Antifungals treat several types of fungal skin infections, ranging from ringworm to dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis) to fingernail infections and toenail fungus to vaginal yeast infections and more.

One option for treating fungal infections is anti-fungal sprays. In some case, anti-fungal sprays are preferred because they're easy to apply and they drying time is a key factor.

 

  • Protective Antifungal Foot Spray AF3025: This protective, breathable spray for feet has a pleasant feel and scent linked to the presence of essential oils known for antibacterial and antifungal properties.
 
 
 

DRY SKIN

Skin that lacks adequate moisture is considered to be dry. To treat dry skin, a formulation should provide hydration and ideally will leave a smooth, pleasant film on the skin.

Cream is developed to prevent dry, cracked skin while keeping it supple and moisturized.

 

  • Moisturizing Cream DS3015: This hydrating cream leaves a mattifying, non-occlusive film on the skin. It is an emulsion that combines silicone and glycerin for moisturization and an enhanced sensory experience – including a smooth, pleasant feel – and it maintains similar hydration versus a formulation without silicone. It is an easy-to-formulate emulsion allowing for cold processing.
  • Moisturizing W/O Emulsion DS3030: This hydrating, breathable cream is an emulsion that combines silicone and glycerin for moisturization and enhanced sensory experience – including a smooth, pleasant feel – and it maintains similar hydration versus a formulation without silicone. It is an easy-to-formulate emulsion allowing for cold processing.

OSTOMY

Ostomy care products that are gentle, effective, pleasant-feeling and easy to use encourage patients to take better care of the skin around their stoma. When properly treated, the skin stays healthier and the patient experiences less discomfort, making life with an ostomy a more positive experience.

Function of barrier cream: To help prevent and protect against potential skin damage

 

  • Ostomy Breathable Barrier Cream OS3011: This water-in-oil emulsion is breathable and substantive on skin while also offering wash-off resistance and a smooth, non-greasy feel. The ease of spreading is beneficial for the patient during application. It is an easy-to-formulate emulsion allowing for cold processing.
  • Ostomy Water-Resistant Barrier Cream OS3012: This oil-in-water emulsion provides long-lasting wear on the skin, as well as wash-off resistance. It leaves a smooth, non-greasy, non-tacky, matte film on the skin.

Spray

Function of barrier spray: Protects against potential skin damage without affecting the adhesion of the baseplate.

 

  • Ostomy Barrier Spray OS3010: This spray formulation provides a smooth feel on skin and delivers a substantive film that is resistant to wash-off. Patients will appreciate the alcohol-free formulation that has low odor compared to a competitive alternative made with alcohol. It contains volatile solvents, allowing a quick evaporation and drying time.
  • Washable barrier Spray OS 3024: This spray formulation developed by DuPont™ Liveo™ Healthcare Solutions provides a smooth feel on skin and delivers a substantive, washable film. Patients will appreciate the alcohol-free formulation, which has low odor compared to a competitive alternative made with alcohol. 
 
 
 

PSORIASIS

125 million people worldwide – or 2-3% of the total global population – have psoriasis, a skin disorder characterized by red, flaky, scaly skin and white, dead skin cell buildup. Of the patients treated topically for psoriasis, 70% are non-compliant.

Creams are commonly used to treat mild to moderate psoriasis in most areas of the body. Creams are easy to use.

 

  • Psoriasis Light Cream PS3017: This cream is a suitable matrix for drug delivery of hydrophobic active, such as betamethasone dipropionate (BDP). This emulsion is smooth and semi-occlusive on the skin. The ease of use and the comfortable, smooth, light, pleasant feel of such a silicone-based emulsion can improve patient compliance. 
  • Psoriasis Easy-to-Spread Cream PS3018: This cream is a suitable matrix for drug delivery of hydrophobic active, such as betamethasone dipropionate (BDP). This emulsion is easy to spread, smooth, non-greasy and semi-occlusive on skin and has a pleasant feel.
 
 
 

SCAR MANAGEMENT

Scars are treated using both invasive techniques, such as surgery, and non-invasive techniques, such as topical treatment products. These products and procedures are used to treat all types of scars, such as keloid scars, contracture scars, hypertrophic scars, scars from burns and atrophic scars. DuPont™ Liveo™ silicone materials are used in product formulations for first-line therapy in scar management.

Gel

Topical gel is one of the most popular forms for scar management. It is easy to apply and cosmetically acceptable.

 

  • SiCar Gel SC3013: This breathable anhydrous gel is smooth, non-greasy and easy to spread on skin. The comfortable, pleasant feel and ease of use of such a silicone-based formulation can improve patient compliance greatly.
  • Substantive SiCar Gel SC3022: This substantive, wash-off-resistant, non-occlusive anhydrous gel offers skin protectancy. A Liveo™ Silicone Fluid used in the formulation provides improved spreadability and allows for skin protectancy claims in accordance with the monograph.
  • Mattifying SiCar Gel SC3014: This anhydrous gel is non-occlusive and substantive, and it offers skin protectancy with a mattifying effect and a pleasant, smooth, light, non-greasy feel. A Liveo™ Silicone Fluid used in the formulation provides improved spreadability and allows for skin protectancy claims in accordance with the monograph.
  • Protective Scar Gel SC3019: This easy-to-spread anhydrous gel is breathable, non-occlusive and substantive, and it offers skin protectancy and wash-off resistance.
  • Balancing Scar Gel SC3020: This smooth anhydrous gel offers skin protectancy and wash-off resistance. It is non-greasy and easy to spread, which can encourage patient comfort.
  • Refreshing Scar Gel SC3021: This is a smooth, non-greasy, non-tacky anhydrous gel with a light feel. It offers substantivity and wash-off resistance. The ease of spreading, mattifying effect and pleasant feel of such a silicone-based gel may improve patient compliance.
  • UV SiCar Gel SC3023: This easy-to-spread, non-tacky anhydrous gel contains sun filters and provides a mattifying effect on skin. It is a substantive, wash-off-resistant anhydrous gel that leaves a skin protectant film on skin and provides a smooth, pleasant feel.

Topical creams are used for their moisturizing effect and allow the addition of hydrophobic active which helps to reduce the scar.

 

  • Moisturizing SiCar Cream SC3026: This breathable oil-in-water cream is smooth and non-greasy, and it provides a matte effect on skin. This emulsion is a combination of silicone, glycerin and Centella asiatica for moisturization and sensorial properties.
 
 
 

ATOPIC DERMATITIS

Eczema is a chronic, non-contagious inflammatory skin disease that affects 15 to 25% of people worldwide; it is becoming increasingly frequent.

  • It is characterized by vesiculation, inflammation, watery discharge, and the development of scales and crusts.
  • “Eczema” is used as a general term for many types of skin inflammation and allergic-type skin rashes.

Atopic dermatitis is the most common form of eczema; 1 in 10 people will develop atopic dermatitis during their lifetime.

  • It can affect any part of the body, and it makes skin itchy, red, dry and cracked.
  •  Atopic dermatitis is a long-term condition in most people, but it can improve over time – especially in children, who often grow out of it.
