DuPont Taiwan Receives National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award

Environmental Protection Administration Recognizes DuPont Hsinchu Manufacturing and Technology Site for Corporate Social Responsibility

HSINCHU, Taiwan, November 19, 2019 –DuPont Electronics & Imaging today announced that it has been honored with a National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award by the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), Executive Yuan, R.O.C. (Taiwan), for its Semiconductor Technologies Hsinchu site.

Since 1992, the EPA has recognized companies for their demonstrated commitment to protecting the environment and corporate social responsibility, and this year marked the first National Enterprise Environmental Protection Awards. DuPont’s Asia Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) Manufacturing and Technical Center in Hsinchu Science Park, Jhunan campus, earned a bronze award for its green building design and energy-efficient practices.

This prestigious award was presented during a ceremony at Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall on Nov. 8. Later in the day, Vice President Chen Chien-jen welcomed Dennis Chen, DuPont Taiwan President, to a meeting at the presidential palace to congratulate DuPont on its achievements. In his comments, the Vice President affirmed the outstanding performance of all award recipients for their work in environmental protection and recognized their ability to influence others in the business community.

“Environmental protection has long been one of DuPont’s core values,” said Dennis Chen, DuPont Taiwan President. “Our bold new 2030 Sustainability Goals reaffirm and advance this commitment to delivering world-class, end-to-end performance in safety, resource efficiency and environmental protection.”

DuPont’s Semiconductor Technologies Hsinchu site is certified as a Green Factory by the Industrial Development Bureau, and its newest expansion received a Silver LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The facility uses JW Pavement EcoTechnology for road surfaces to collect rainwater and keep surfaces cool. The rainwater is recycled for use in landscape irrigation, saving around 3,000 tons of water per year. The DuPont team also is committed to waste reduction. By changing internal processes and the packaging of certain incoming materials, waste materials have been reduced significantly, and wastewater has been reduced by 10 percent.

DuPont Hsinchu leaders also have demonstrated a commitment to corporate social responsibility by encouraging volunteerism. Collaborating with other agencies, employees have volunteered for coastal cleanups and wetland protection, and have adopted a local park, maintaining facilities and planting more than 200 trees.

“Through our culture of innovation and continuous improvement, DuPont team members are working together to identify sustainable solutions that are better for our customers, our employees, and our community,” said Cliff Chen, DuPont Hsinchu Site Leader. “We are deeply honored to receive this significant award.”

The DuPont Hsinchu site has a long history of recognition for its commitment to sustainability and the environment. Most recently, the site was the recipient of the Hsinchu Science Park’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Economy Excellence Enterprise Award. In 2018, the site was recognized with a National Sustainable Development Award by the National Council for Sustainable Development.

The DuPont Hsinchu site is home to manufacturing and technology teams in DuPont’s Semiconductor Technologies business. Semiconductor Technologies is a global leader in materials for the integrated circuit fabrication market, with a deep customer focus, advanced technologies and global reach. Its diverse portfolio includes materials for microlithography, pads and slurries for CMP, cleaning chemistries, specialty silicones for electronics industries, and materials for advanced semiconductor packaging and assembly.
