Water purification plays an important role in the agriculture industry for the production of irrigation water, especially where source water has high salinity. Reverse osmosis (RO) technology is frequently used for this. However, water and operating conditions inevitably change over time, and this can pose a challenge for conventional RO systems.
In 2013, a DesaliTec™ SOAR Closed Circuit Reverse Osmosis (CCRO) system from DuPont Water Solutions was installed at the Kittansett Golf Club in Marion, Massachusetts to help improve water quality for the irrigation system used to maintain their course to a high standard. The golf course relies on well water which is increasingly impacted by seawater intrusion, causing browning of trees and grass.
By installing a CCRO system, the golf club was able to mitigate the fouling and scaling that typically plagues reverse osmosis systems. Most importantly, the installation of DesaliTec™ SOAR CCRO technology allowed for sustained performance, requiring less maintenance and oversight. After switching to a CCRO system, the golf course now has the technology to treat the high variability of the well’s salinity from 1000 to 10,000 parts per million of dissolved solids.
