Food and beverage manufacturers face significant water supply and quality challenges, with their facilities requiring a reliable supply of highly purified water. Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems have been the go-to technology for removing salts from water sources. However, these have suffered from excessive microbial growth (biofouling) and mineral scaling which require regular cleaning, impacting productivity and membrane lifespan.

The high frequency of cleanings-in-place (CIPs) was a key concern for Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), a global leader in food production, livestock feed ingredients, and bio-fuels. Consequently, they chose to adopt DesaliTec™ SOAR Closed Circuit Reverse Osmosis (CCRO) systems as their new standard for water purification to help reduce cleaning requirements and energy consumption while maximizing water recovery.

“We thought it sounded too good to believe,” said Mark Carroll, a water resource engineer with ADM, “but everything worked as promised. On the DesaliTec™ system, we walk up to this touch panel, we change the recovery from 80% to 88%, and voila, it’s done!  The whole system automatically adjusts to a higher recovery without us ever having to put our hands on a single piece of equipment.”

Watch the video and explore how CCRO has helped ADM achieve their water purification goals at multiple locations while simultaneously reducing costs and streamlining their operations.
