Shaanxi, China: Efficient wastewater management is increasingly important in the coal chemical industry as the sector moves towards reducing its carbon footprint. Since 2020, an enhanced Minimal Liquid Discharge (MLD) solution from DuPont has been deployed at a major chemical industrial park in Shaanxi, China to improve the recovery rate of wastewater, enabling the site to meet the requirements of wastewater management regulations and supporting its transformation to more sustainable operations.
The site had already used DuPont’s industry-leading Ultrafiltration (UF), FilmTec™ Fortilife™ Reverse Osmosis (RO) and FilmTec™ Fortilife™ selective salt separation Nanofiltration (NF) technologies since 2013 to enable the use of RO permeate as cooling tower makeup water. This already efficient system was upgraded in 2020 to further reduce the site’s energy consumption and associated costs. By upgrading and adjusting elements of the RO and NF systems, the site now benefits from a comprehensive MLD plant with improved recovery rates, resulting in a significant reduction in the overall cost of the accompanying zero-discharge system.
