The iron and steel industry is known for consuming huge amounts of water, which could pose a significant risk to the environment if the wastewater is left untreated. Efficient wastewater management has become increasingly important to the sector, with moves to improve water conservation and reduce emissions.

Benxi Steel Group, located in Benxi, Liaoning, China, is building on its reputation for high-quality steel production with a commitment to embracing sustainable manufacturing processes. In 2020, the company invested in water reuse projects in two plants, deploying FilmTec™ Fortilife™ CR100 reverse osmosis elements to allow for the recycling of wastewater used in steel production. After adopting advanced wastewater treatment technology, both plants are now compliant with the latest environmental regulations, alongside having helped reduce the impact of industrial water pollution on the local environment.

The FilmTec™ Fortilife™ CR100 reverse osmosis elements were used to treat pollutants generated during the iron and steelmaking process, reducing the reliance on freshwater sources and pollutants contained in discharge. In addition to consistently producing high-quality water, the membranes have helped reduce the frequency of chemical cleaning by up to 50% compared to other potential solutions, increasing system uptime and the environmental footprint of the water treatment system.

Learn more about how FilmTec™ Fortilife™ CR100 helped Benxi Steel Group improve sustainability operations whilst also reducing production costs.
